Sandilands Golf Club, Roman Bank, Mablethorpe. (1952 – 2018)
Founded in 1894 as Sutton-on-Sea Golf Club (see separate entry on this website for the history of Sutton-on Sea Golf Club 1894 – 1952.)
It continued as Sutton-on-Sea until 1952 when it became Sandilands Golf Club.
The following message appeared on the clubs website in December 2018; “Sandilands Golf Club is Lincolnshire's original links golf course - Sadly, we regret to announce the closure of the course and clubhouse, effective from 12th December 2018. Thanks all those that have come and enjoyed golf in Sandilands over the years, hopefully we will have some more positive news in the new-year.”
The club was placed into liquidation with immediate effect.

After a promising start for the club.... problems ahead in April 1956.
It was not until the mid 1960s that the Sandilands Golf Club started to appear in the Golfer’s Handbook. In 1964 it was stated as being founded in 1900; membership of 500; secretary, J J Walkinton; green-keeper, A Riggall; course records – amateur, D Clegg, 66; professional, F G Allott, 63; 18-holes measured 6,036 yards, SSS 70; visitors, April to September 7s/6d a round, 10s a day, weekend (3 days,) 21s, week, 35s; October to March, 5s, 7s/6d, 15s, 25s.
The following is from 1972; Membership 600; secretary, V Guy; professional, P Gillender; ;18-holes measuring 6,075 yards, SSS 68; visitors’ fees, 75p a day, £1 at weekend.
In the early 1980s the club had a membership of 600; secretary, E N C Wild; professional S J Williamson; course records as 1960s; visitors, £2 weekdays; £3 at weekend, £12 a week.
In the late 1980s and 1990s membership of 500; secretary, D Mumby; professional, R Lawie (1988,) D Vernon (1991,) S Sherratt (1998); course records – amateur, J R Payne, 66; professional, F G Allott, 63; 18-holes measured 5,995 yards SSS 69; visitors, £10 weekdays, £15 weekend.
In 2006 the club had a membership of 300; secretary, P Ross; professional, S P Sherratt; visitors, £18 weekdays, £20 weekend.
