The annual competition for the president’s Christmas prize was played on Monday 2 January 1911, leading scores; P McAllum, 87-8-79; D M Millar, 86-6-80; A Ernest Emley, 93-13-80; N Newton, 94-14-80; N H Pattinson, 87-5-82; J E Hicks, 89-7-82; J H Colley, 91-9-82; G T Parkinson, 86-2-84; T J Walker, 97-12-85; R P Paynter, 86-1-85; F P Paynter, 88-1-87; A C Kayll, 93-6-87; Edward Emley, 93-6-87.

In February 1911 the secretary of the Gateshead Mayor's Fund for feeding poor children acknowledged the receipt of £1/12s from Mr J de C S  Paynter on behalf of the Black Fell Golf Club.

The second round of the Horsley Cup was played on Saturday 12 October 1912; C H L Bell, 90-12-78; Geo Wilson, 93-14-79; Rev. F J Walkey, 93-12-81; H A Haslam, 99-16-83; C J Hair, 98-13-85; Mrs F P Paynter, 110-20-90. There were several no returns. Members were informed that during the winter the brake will meet the 1 pm tram not the 1.15.

In 1914 the secretary was F P Paynter and the green-keeper was H Allen. A 9-hole course with a membership of 100. Entry fees for gents were £1/5/0. Subs for gents were £1/1/0 and ladies 12/6.  Visitors’ fees were 1/- a day. Sunday play was not allowed. The nearest railway station was at Birtley.

In December 1914 the secretary was Mr E Emley.

Black Fell member killed in action. It was reported in January 1916 that Major F P Paynter a prominent golfer and member of the Black Fell Golf Club had been killed in action whilst attempting to rescue a wounded soldier. 

Of the eleven original clubs elected to the Durham Golf Union in 1908 Black Fell is the only one not to have survived. The golf club ceased to exist in the 1920s.

It was reported in April 1920 that the Gateshead and District N.S.P.C.C., had received from the trustees of the late Birtley Black Fell Golf Club a cheque for £30 for the Society.

The current Birtley Golf Club was founded in 1922.
