Killybegs Golf Club, County Donegal. (1920s - 1940s)

First appeared in the late 1920s when the secretary was William Diver the professional and green-keeper was J Doherty. A nine-hole picturesque course with a club membership of 60. Visitors’ fees were 1/6 a day and 5/- a week. The station at  Killybegs was ½ mile away.

When clubs were closing due to WW2 Killybegs was re-organised in May 1940.

The new golf links at Killybegs were officially opened in July 1940 before a large attendance from every part of South West Donegal. A stroke competition was played following the opening, 25 cards were taken out. The winner was Mrs R A Longmore, Killybegs, 62; runner up, J V Herron, Ardara, 63. 

Whilst playing with Mr B M Brady and local solicitor Patrick Cunningham in August 1940, J L Murrin, Derry, holed in one at the 120 yard second hole.

The annual meeting was held in July 1941, Jack Sheridan presided. The hon. treasurer, William Reilly, submitted the report showing a substantial credit balance. The following officers were appointed; captain, Jack A Corcoran; hon. secretary, Thomas W Hussey; hon. treasurer, William Reilly; greens committee - Joseph McBrearty, Charles Sheridan, Patrick Cunningham, J Cole, J Langmore, William Diver. A stroke competition was played in August 1941. The winner was Robert Cole, the runner-up was John Black.

In the final of the Nixon Cup in September 1941 James A Black defeated R J Langmore. 

In June 1942 much regret was felt over the transfer to Ballyshannon of Thomas Hussey, Accountant, National Bank, Killybegs. During his four years in the town he took a part in all local functions and was honorary secretary of Killybegs Golf Club, the formation of which was largely due to his untiring and enthusiastic efforts. 

The annual meeting was held in November 1942, the following officers were elected for the coming season; Patron, Very Reverend James Canon Brennan, P.P; president, Mrs Allan Rogers; treasurer, P McShane; secretary, Mrs Annie Furey; captain, Mrs Hancock. The winner of the Captain's Prize, presented by James Corcoran, was Thomas Hussey.

Nothing further was found for the club.
