Ramelton Golf Club, County Donegal. (1931 - WW2)

First appeared in the early 1930s, the clubs final appearance was in 1940.

The secretary throughout this time was P M Ward, The Mall, Ramelton the professional was J Doherty. A 9-hole course with a S.S.S of 72. Visitors’ fees were 1/6 a day. Sunday play was not allowed. The station at Letterkenny was 6 miles away.

In the early 1930s the long established Milford Golf was on the move to a course at Aghnagaddy (see report below). There is separate entry on this website for this club. It's assumed that the course was shared by both the Ramelton and Milford clubs. 

From the Belfast Telegraph Tuesday 21 July 1931 - "It is stated a new golf course will be laid in the near future at Aughnagaddy, for the use of Ramelton golfers. The suggested course will be a nine-hole one."

The following is from the Derry Journal Friday 14 August 1931 - "Mr M A McReadie, captain of the Milford Golf Club, recently inspected the new golf course being prepared at Aughnagaddy, Ramelton, and reported favourably on the suitability of the grounds, which, in his opinion, has sufficient scope for a nine-hole course. A recognised authority in the district on matters pertaining to golf Mr McReadie has played over the principal courses of Scotland, England and Ireland."

A flag competition was played in September 1933. The ladies competition was won by Mrs P J McNamee, and the gents Mr McBride.
