Report from the Dundee Advertiser Monday 16 October 1899. – “The Balavil and Insh golf teams travelled to Newtonmore to play a friendly match with the members of the Newton more club. The home team won by 9 holes. The players from the Balavil beat their opponents, but the Insh representatives were badly beaten. Mr Douglas, of the Balavil club, playing against the first man for Newtonmore, was 9 holes up.”
