From the Glossop-dale Chronicle and North Derbyshire Reporter Friday 26 June 1896; “Hayfield Golf Club – A daily contemporary says that both Marple and Hayfield are no doubt important clubs, locally, but they have hardly reached the stage of playing in international matches, although there is no reason why some of the members of either clubs, should not find themselves quite good enough to be included in a representative team at some future date when the long talked of Golf Union becomes an established fact,”
