East Essex Golf Club, Fitzjohn’s Course, Great Canfield. (1891)
Short lived nine-hole course.
From the Sporting Gazette Saturday 28 November 1891 – “The first of the Monthly Competitions (handicap) of this club took place on Saturday 7 November on the new links at Fitzjohn’s. Mr R R Morton was the winner in the gentlemen’s round with a round of 54-10-44; Miss Morton took the ladies’ prize with a score of 69-20-49.
This club was only formed in October last, but it now numbers 50 members. The links consist of nine-holes, and the nature the ground provides some excellent hazards.”
