Bullwood Golf Club v Southend Golf Club - A club match took place on Saturday 9 June 1894 on the Bullwood course and resulted in a victory for the visitors by 10 holes. The match between R P Newham (BGC) and Captain Nicholls (SGC) was a very interesting one, both being equal in strokes and holes at the seventeenth, Captain Nicholls taking the last hole, making his score 96 as compared to Mr Newham's 98.
In 1896 the council notified the club that they intended to build a sewage pumping plant on the course. The members were devastated and sadly this looked as though it was the end for the Southend club.
To the delight of the members up stepped a local landowner by the name of James Tabor with the most generous offer of land and accommodation for a new course. The members couldn’t believe there luck, and this was the start of the Rochford Hundred Golf Club.
