Broxbourne Golf Club, Herts. (1913 - WW2)

In August 1913 it was announced that an 18-hole golf course and a ladies’ nine-hole course was being planned for Broxbourne.

It was reported in October 1913 that a meeting was to be held at the Recreation Room, Broxbourne, on Saturday 25 October at 4.30 pm to discuss the laying out of a golf course on the Broxbournebury Estate. A plan of the land and a suggested layout would be provided by J H Taylor who had recently inspected the area. A large attendance was requested to show support for the scheme. W A Vincent of Broxbourne was the contact.

Mr H N G Bushby presided at the public meeting when it was unanimously decided that a course was desirable for the area. A clubhouse called the Red House has already been erected. The course would take in land running from the Red House in the direction of Baas Hill and then back again to the Wormley boundary and the Red House. The course had been examined by J H Taylor and he reported that it could be made into a good course. It was anticipated that a nine-hole course could be ready by next June and a full eighteen-hole course would quickly follow.

The April 1923 monthly bogey was won by R P Warren (17,) 4up.
