Oadby Municipal Golf Club, Leicester Road. (1974 - 2012)
Course progressing in 1973.
The course was operated by Oadby & Wigston Borough Council and was opened by Bernard Gallacher MBE and Christy O'Connor Junior in 1974. Course designed by C O'Connor.
It was a mature parkland course of 6311 yards with large undulating greens proving an interesting challenge to golfers of all abilities. It was rather unique having 9-holes on Leicester racecourse and 9-holes on adjacent land. On race days the adjacent 9-holes were available for playing. There was a well stocked pro shop manned by John Butler and then Andrew Wells. The licensed clubhouse bar offered all catering needs from breakfasts and snacks to main meals. The public bar was very comfortably furnished, ideal for relaxing after a round of golf. All facilities including showers were disabled friendly.
There was a brief mention in the 1975 Golfer's Handbook when it was listed as a nine-hole course. The professional was Paul Bottell.
