Report on the “New Club” from the Grantham Journal Saturday 8 October 1904; "A Golf Club For Melton – A well attended meeting, to discuss the desirability of forming a Golf Club Melton Mowbray, was held at the Bull Hotel, on Monday evening. The chair was taken by Mr Jas. Atter, who with, Mr E Bentley, initiated the idea, and there were also present – Rev. C B Hulton, W J New, J Fletcher, R S Goward, E Jeeves, W F Hill, C W Stanley, A E Pywell, W T Bobart, W C F Kirkby, M Jackson, M Dolman, W Barnes, H C Holmes, and others. The chairman said he had called the meeting at the request of several who had took an interest in golf, either as players, or would-be players. With the help of several old golfers, they had been looking round for a suitable piece of land, and had come to the conclusion that the best links could be made just to the right-hand of Hose station. After discussing the matter, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Fletcher, seconded by Mr Hill, that a club to be called the “Melton Mowbray Golf Club” be formed; and it was further decided, on the proposition of Mr New, Mr Jeeves seconding, that the links be formed at Hose, if satisfactory arrangements could be made with the tenants of the land there. A committee of Messrs. Atter, Bentley, New and Jeeves, was formed, to carry out the necessary arrangements for the establishment of the club, to report to a further meeting which was convened for last (Friday) evening. The chairman announced that the old Golf Club had volunteered to let them have their implements, including nine sand-boxes, flags, mowing machine and roller, and he thought they ought to feel very grateful to them for their kindness. (Hear, hear). The meeting was then adjourned.”
