Swannington Golf Club, Coalville was founded in 1909.
Prior to WW1 E Muggleton was employed as professional. He had been assistant to Arthur Brooks at the Western Park Golf Club in Leicester. After being in existence for over 100 years the Western Park club closed in 2015.
In 1914 the secretary was H A Carter, London Rd, Coalville. The professional was Arthur Smith. A 9-hole course of 1,918yds with hazards consisting of ditches, ponds and trees. There was no entry fee. The subs for gents were £1/11/6 and ladies £1/1/0. The fee for a member and wife, or brother and sister residing together was £2/2/0. Visitors’ fees were 1/- a day and 3/6 a week. Sunday play was not allowed.
Swannington Golf Club disappeared after WW1.
