Brigg Golf Club, Bigby Road and St Helen’s Well Courses. (1897 – 1903)

There is evidence of an early course on Bibgy Road which was in existence from 1897 to 1900.

A second course was laid out in the vicinity of St Helen’s Well on Wrawby Road in 1900.

Members of the Brigg Golf Club join the newly formed Elsham Golf Club September 1903.

From the Hull and Lincolnshire Times Saturday 20 October 1900 – “The regular golf season commenced last Saturday on the new links between Wrawby and Brigg, which are considered much better than the old ones on Bigby Road. At present the grass on the links is very long and consequently every player loses several balls in the course of a round but it is anticipated that the frost and the cattle in the fields will soon remedy this. Just now, the loss of so many balls justifies the description which a local humorist has used when he said that “the game consists of a player striking the ball as hard as he can and if he finds it again on the same day he wins the game.”
