Wells-Next-The-Sea Golf Club, Norfolk. (1894 - WW1)
Founded in 1894.
The club disappeared before WW1.
The second annual general meeting was held at the Crown Hotel in January 1896, E B Loynes presided. The accounts were submited showing a small balance in hand. This was considered satisfactory considering the expenses incurred in making a roadway to the course. The following officers were elected; President, E B Loynes; treasurer, H E Loynes; secretary, A J Napier; E P Middleton and F W Kersley were added to the existing committee.
In June 1896 the monthly medal for the gentlemen was won by G F Smith with a net score of 73. In the ladies competition Mrs G F Smith won with a score net 92.
The AGM was held at the Crown Hotel on Friday 28th January 1898. The secretary, Mr A J Napier, reported that membership had increased and the links were now in excellent condition. Mr E B Loynes was re-elected president, Mr A J Napier secretary and Mr H E Loynes treasurer. The members of the committee were re-elected with the exception of H A Groom and W T Hastings who had left the district, it was decided that Dr J S Mellish and Edward Nelson would replace them. Mr Loynes offered a “Presidents Prize” to be competed for amongst the members and treasurer also donated a “substantial prize.”

Thanks to Roger Johnson who supplied the picture below. “It was posted from Wells Norfolk on November 19th 1908 – although listed by a dealer as Wells, Somerset! The card is unusual as it has an irregular gilt border giving it a rather untidy appearance”.
