By 1939 the Faringdon Golf Club had become defunct.
In the 1990s a par three course was opened at Great Coxwell. This course closed in 2015. In May 2021 we received the following recollections of the course – “In the 1990s a par 3 golf course located in the village of Great Coxwell (famous for its National Trust tithe barn) opened. This later Faringdon Golf Course closed in the autumn of 2015 with the promise of re-opening for summer the following year. The fantastic course never reopened and a planning application for a holiday park with log cabins was submitted and approved.
It’s amazing how quickly an established golf course of 20 years which has been enjoyed by golfers of all abilities can deteriorate to nothing more than wasteland in such a short period of time. The positions of the greens, tees and bunkers are practically unrecognisable. The club house and shop is empty and the machinery (what’s left) has been left to rot.”
The Google Map below shows the location of the Great Coxwell golf course.
