Market Drayton Golf Club. (1906 - 1925)

The club was founded in 1906. 

The club had two known sites prior to the move to the current course in 1925.

There was an earlier course at Adderley prior to WW1. The later course between Adderley and Spoonley appeared following WW1.

Below is the result of a match played at Adderley against Wellington Golf Club in March 1910.

The winner of the ladies’ 1910 May medal was Miss Bradbury, followed by; Miss Winser, Mrs Upton, Miss Exham and Miss F Major.

At the annual meeting in March 1911 T H Garside was elected captain of the club for the year. The other officers and committee were re-elected.

It was reported in March 1912 that the Market Drayton professional George Gadd, had been appointed to a similar position at Aberdovey Golf Club.

In October 1921 the final of the Monro Walker Challenge Bowl for ladies was won by Miss C Martin who defeated Mrs R Pearce by 3 and 1.

Leading scores in the September 1922 bogey; E T Minshall (16), 2down; T H Garside (20), 6; H B Davies (24), 7; J Martin (12), 8; E G Hall (24), 8; G H Heathcote (24), 8; E H Walker (24), 8; W H Taylor (24), 8; T Dennis (18), 9; D A E Yates (2), 9; G H Lashmore (24), 11.

The annual meeting was held in January 1923, Mr J St. C Upton in the chair. The balance sheet was presented and shown to be satisfactory position, having started the season with a debit balance. The following officers were elected; R Corbet, president; Mr Killick, vice-president; Capt. Norcop, captain; E Bennion, captain of the B Division; T H Garside and A E Yates, hon. secretaries; J E A Wood, hon. treasurer. The following were elected on to the committee; J Martin, V G H Barnes, J St. C Upton, P Arkinstall and Rev. A P Winser.

Also in September 1924 it was reported that George Clifford Goodlad, the former Market Drayton professional, had been appointed professional at Builth Wells Golf Club.

It was reported in July 1925 that the new nine-hole course at Brownhills, Sutton, had officially opened.
