Pelaw and District Golf Club. (1907 - 1920s)
The first Pelaw Golf Club course was located where the current Heworth Golf Club (founded 1912) now play.
In 1912 Pelaw abandoned the former course and laid out a new course to the north of Leam Lane.
During 1908 the Newcastle Daily Chronicle published a series of articles called “Northern Golf Links – A Tour Round the Courses. In June 1908 they visited Pelaw and published the article below.

From the Newcastle Evening Chronicle Saturday 11 July 1908 - "Pelaw Golf Club's New House - The new golf house presented to the Pelaw and District Golf Club by Mr P Bennett, was formally opened this afternoon. There was a good attendance, and the occasion also formally marked the opening of the course, which extends over 47 acres. The course is on the North Fallingsby Farm at Jingling Gate, and is about a mile distant from Pelaw station and the Heworth cars."
In May 1912 the Pelaw Golf Club moved to a course across the road. Heworth Golf Club move in on the old site.

The following report is From the Newcastle Journal 14 December 1914. "PELAW AND DISTRICT GOLF CLUB - This club held its dinner and distribution of prizes on Saturday evening at the Royal Hotel, Gateshead. Frederick J Crowest was in the chair, and distributed the prizes. The Palmer Cup was secured for the next twelve months by Mr R Cook, he also won the Crowest Bowl; Robert B Foster will hold the Higginbottom Vase for the coming year; The Kirkley Medal, Captain's Prize and 18 to 25 handicap were won by T Henderson, J G Smith and J Brown respectively. The proceedings were purposefully quiet on account of the war, but the musical arrangements were excellent, and rendered more so by the fine singing of Mr Duncanson of Durham Cathedral with other gentlemen."
From the Newcastle Journal Wednesday 21 April 1915 - "Although the membership of the Pelaw Golf Club is somewhat small, and the resources as a result limited, quite notable improvements have been recently effected to their course, which is now one of the most interesting nine-hole courses in the district. The programme of club events for this season consists of the Captain's Prize, Palmer Cup, Thompson Cup, Higginbottom Cup, F J Crowest Cup, Kirkley Medal and Vice Captain's Prize."
Pelaw was appearing on O.S maps through the 1920s and 1930s but little has been found about the later clubs history or when it actually closed.
