Spennymoor Golf Club, Kirk Merrington, Ferryhill, Durham. (1918 - 1950s)

First appeared following WW1.

A 9-hole course with a par of 72 situated on Binchester Moor, Merrington. Club membership of between 120 and 150. The railway station at Spennymoor was 1 mile away. Visitors fees were 1/6 a day, 7/- a week and £1 a month. Sunday play was allowed. Local hotel was the Wheatsheaf.

In August 1918 the members made  a presentation of a silver bowl to the secretary Mr A W Mowitt, who was leaving the district. Mr Mowitt said he would like to return the gift and add it to the clubs challenge trophies.

The club was re-established in 1927.

In 1940 the amateur course record holder was G A C Hall 73. 

The death was announced in September 1945 of Mr Thomas Crofton Sutton who was president of the now defunct Spennymoor Golf Club.

Although the club continued to be listed in the Golfer's Handbook into the 1950s it was a repetitive entry and the club actually disappeared at the time of WW2.
