Wakefield Golf Club, Heath Common Course. (1891 - 1910)

Founded in 1891.

Tom Dunn advised on the layout of the nine-hole course on Heath Common.

The club played on Heath Common until 1910 when it moved to its present location at Woodthorpe Lane.

Competition played in July 1892.

Result of the Challenge Cup, donated by Colonel Charlesworth MP and played in April 1895. A 36-hole scratch competition, twelve competitors took part and it was won by the captain of the club Mr Wilfred Creswick. Scores; Mr W Creswick, 194; Mr Claude Loatham, 203; Dr J Murray, 204; Mr M H Peacock, 207; Mr H M Briggs, 209.

The AGM was held at the Bull Hotel on Thursday 28 January 1904. Mr J L Lee the captain chaired the meeting. Total membership of the club was now 189. Dr Slatter was unanimously re-elected president. The following were elected on to the committee; W Clarke, W Creswick, W Hurst, F Lee, J L Lee, M H Peacock, J F Warrington, F E Shepherd, Rev S C Whalley and J Whittle. At the committee meeting held afterwards, Mr J F Warrington was elected captain, Mr C W L Fernandes, treasurer, Mr R Rowand and Mr C C Roberts joint secretaries.
