Barnsley and District Golf Club. (1894 - 1968)

The first Bradford Golf Club appeared in the mid 1890s and was located at Day House to the north west of Barnsley. 

In 1905 the club moved to an 18-hole course at Dodworth and was renamed Barnsley and District Golf Club.

Barnsley and District Golf Club disappeared in 1968 and was renamed Silkstone Golf Club.

It was reported in March 1896 that the recent additions to the course at Day House were inaugurated on Saturday the 28th with a match against Redmires.

In May 1897 the Barnsley club entertained the Hallowes Golf Club at Day House.

The monthly medal result played Saturday 2 May 1903. The course was unusually soft with the heavy rain, casual water was a problem, even on some of the greens. The winner of the first class medal and club button was Mr W Wood who returned the following score; Out 6,6,5,3,5,6,4,5,4 - 44 In 5,6,5,4,4,5,4,4,3 - 40. R R Longley won the second class medal and cup. In 1905 the club moved to an 18-hole course near Dodworth and changed name to the Barnsley and District Golf Club.

From the 1905 Nisbet’s Golf Yearbook; Barnsley and District Golf Club; Instituted 1905; Station at Dodworth; Hon. secretary – F A Hewitt, Bank, Barnsley; Entrance fee, £1/1s and subs £2/2s; 18-holes. The course is 5 minutes walk from Dodworth Station. The land is old pasture., and the soil light, with one of the most beautiful views in South Yorkshire.

The Bradford and District Golf Club disappeared in 1968 and became Silkstone Golf Club.
