Allerthorpe Park Golf Club, Pocklington. (1994 - 2013)

Allerthorpe Park Golf Club was a picturesque 18-hole parkland course with many interesting features. It was designed by J G Hatcliffe & Partners in 1994.  It included Stone Beck, a meandering water hazard, another prominent feature was at the eighteenth hole which was played over the lake.

Mr Atkinson and his father John, both from Polkington, developed the site, which used to be farmland, into a nine-hole course in 1994. It was extended to thirteen-holes in 2001 with a further five holes being added in 2001.

The secretary in 2006 was J D Atkinson and the professional J Calam. There was a membership of 500.

Golf professional James Drinkall, his parents, and wife, took over the lease on the property and ran the golf club from 2008. They invested £500,000 in the course, which had a teaching academy and professional golf shop, as well as a bar, clubhouse, function room and conference facilities. The course was maintained to a high standard.

The demise of the club was due mainly to the depressed economy and a summer and winter of relentless rain, which had a detrimental effect on both membership numbers and visitors to the course. The course closed in 2013.

It  was reported in October 2017 that the former golf course was to be redeveloped as an holiday park which would include 150 luxury holiday homes.
