From the 1905 Nisbet's Golf Yearbook; Instituted 1891; membership 300;  joint secretaries were G Denton and G A Wilson, East Parade, Sheffield; captain, A Creswick; professional, J Forrest; 18-holes; professional course record H Vardon, 75; amateur, A Wallace, 75; entrance fee was £3/3s and subs £2/2s; visitors' fees were 1/- a day, 5/- a week and 10s/6d  a month. "This course was originally cut out of moorland thickly covered with gorse. It is very narrow, and the gorse extends on either side of each hole. If a player's ball gets into it, he may be considered lucky if it does not cost him more than one stroke. If anything the course is on the narrow side, and straight and long driving is essential to the compilation of a low score. Besides the gorse, there are a good many built-up bunkers stretching right across the course; these are not well placed , as a long driver can reach several of them with a following wind. The Yorkshire meeting has been held on this course several times. - G Hoffmann." Also listed was the Sheffield and District Ladies' Golf Club. A branch of the Gentlemen's club the ladies play over the Gentlemen's course.

The September 1919 monthly medal was won by E Barber, 90-8-82.

Result of the Jessop Cup played in April 1931, finished in a tie; P E Lee (10) 1 down; A Duncan Barber (14) 1 down; H Mappin (8) 4 down; E Wilkinson (14) 4 down.
