From the Halifax Courier Saturday 26 August 1899; “Cliffe Hill – It is rumoured in the district that Cliffe Hill and park lands, which have been unoccupied for a somewhat lengthy period, have at length found a tenant. The incoming tenant is, we understand, a well known Bradford gentleman, who has, it is understood, secured a lengthy lease of the estate, with option of purchase on its expiration. The result will probably be that the Halifax Golf Club will have to seek new links."

From the Bradford Daily Telegraph Tuesday 20 February 1900; “NEW LINKS FOR THE HALIFAX CLUB – We are informed that the Halifax Golf Club have decided to remove from the grounds at Cliffe Hall, Lightcliffe, and have made arrangements with Mr Jno. Lister to have new links prepared at Shibden Park. When the Stump Cross section of the Halifax tramways is completed, the links will be easy of reach.”
