Bollington and Shrigley Golf Club, Nab Hill Course. (1907 - 1930)
Report on the new club and course from June 1907.
The formal opening of the Bollington and Shrigley course took place on Wednesday 7 August 1907. To commemorate the opening a four ball foursome match was played between A T Spalding and P R Harrap (Manchester Club) against J W Gaudin, professional and Mr Taylor (Disley). Although the club had only been inaugurated for a few months there had already been a steady growth in membership. Most of the members of the club where new to golf and were keen to improve. On Wednesdays and Saturdays a professional was available for tuition. Up to the end of the year anyone living over ten miles from the clubhouse could join the club for half-a-guinea (52½p).
The captain’s cup final was played on the picturesque course on Saturday 12 September 1908. It was won by the club secretary, Mr A S Turner, with a 36-hole net score of 146. Percy Hockenhull was second and received a silver cigarette box.
