The earlier club first appeared in the 1920s.
There were scant reports on the earlier club and course.
Below is the result of a competition played in September 1923.

The later club was founded in 1965.
The original 18-hole course, measuring 6,446 yards with a SSS 71, was designed by M G Hawtree and was laid out in the grounds of Eaton Hall. The club moved to its present location at Waverton in 1993.

In the 1970s it was listed as an 18-hole course of 6,601 yards with a par of 72. The secretary was Dr J Hay and the professional J B Pavey.
Competition played on the Eaton course in July 1974.

In the early 1980s the secretary was Major C L Hall and the professional J B Pavey. In the later 1980s and early 1990s the secretary was R T Robinson and the professional Alex Mitchell.
It was reported in November 1982 that professional Jack Pavey, who had been at the club since 1965, would be retiring in December. A clubmaker of considerable note, he had also been involved in course and design construction. His successor at Eaton was to be Paul Andrews.
In November 1985 two golfer holed in one at Eaton; John Conlan scored his ace at the 195 yard eleventh; Derek Clay holed out at the 162 yard fifth.
