Pike Fold Golf Club, Blackley. (1909 - 1998)

The club was founded in 1909.

The first course was located at Tweedle Hill Farm.

In 1920 the club moved to a course at Henshalls Farm, it remained at this location until its move to the present location in 1998.

The following is an extract from the 1933 Golfer’s Handbook; Pike Fold Golf Club, Cooper Lane, Victoria Avenue, Blackley; Membership of 120; Secretary – C H Haddock, 13 Mansfield Road, Blackley; Nine-holes;  Professional – J Fernihough; Green-keeper – R Haughton; Records – Amateur; E Clark, 70; Professional; J Fernihough, 73; Visitors’ fees, 1s/6d a day, £3s/6d at weekends.

Following WW2 the secretary was H Cusworth, 4 Erskine Road, Higher Blackley; Membership of 120 gents and 60 ladies; Professional J E Wiggett and green-keeper, D E Keith; The nine-holes had a Par and SSS score of 72; Visitors’ fees 1s/6d a day, weekend 5s a day.

In the mid 1950s the course measured 5,565 yards with a SSS of 70. The secretary was T George, professional J E Wiggett, and the green-keeper, H Habrams. Membership of 200. Amateur course record, G V W Kendell, 70; Professional, J E Wiggett, 66. Visitors’ fees 5s a day, weekends, 10s.

In the 1970s the secretary was G V W Kendell. Course records amateur, M Hazelden and T Salmon, 68. Professional J E Wiggett, 66.

In the 1980/90s the secretary was J R Sankey. Nine-hole course with a total measurement of 5,789 yards and a SSS of 68. Visitors’ fees £4, £15 (1990s.)
