Nantwich Golf Club, Cheshire. (1910 - WW2)
The club first appeared in 1910.
Thomas Harlock, head of the firm of Stretch & Harlock Ltd, Drapers and Outfitters, was one of the founder members and a director of the Nantwich Golf Club.

Staffordshire Sentinel Saturday 21 January 1911 - "IMPROVED ORGANISATION - A meeting of the Nantwich Golf Club, on Friday night, it was announced negotiations were now finally settled for the club's taking over of the links from the Brine Baths Hotel Company. Hitherto the directors of the hotel had the controlling influence of the links, but golfers locally have banded themselves together, have formed a club, and have decided to rent the land from the owners, and thereby get full management of the course, on which great improvements are to take place. Dr Lapage has been elected president, J H Parsonage and T H Harlock hon. secretaries and the following committee has been appointed; Messrs., Pickmere, W Stonehaven, Hartley, A O Bevan, G Harvey, L Worrall and Rev F O Poole (Rector of Nantwich). There are now about seventy members of the club. The subscription for gentlemen has been raised to £1/10s and for ladies £1, the entrance fee of £1/1s remaining as it stood. An endeavour will be made to make it one of the best nine-hole inland courses, and in order to give the club a good start, a number of influential members have subscribed over £50."
The map below from 1912 shows the Brine Baths Hotel, unfortunately the golf course is not marked. The Brine Baths Hotel was demolished in 1959.

During 1923/24 the course was closed due to an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease.
The president's prize in July 1924 was won by Mr Edwards, secretary of the club, who defeated E H Salt.
In May 1927 the competition for the ladies' Captain's Prize, presented by Miss Wilson, was won by Mrs E Wooldridge who defeated Miss Wilson by one-up.

In 1929 the professional course record was held by H W Fiddaman 65.
Staffordshire Sentinel Tuesday 5 November 1929; "The Nantwich Golf Club has had a most successful season. The membership has been considerably increased, principally as the result of more ladies joining the club. The captain's (Mr Wollridge's) prize was won by L Worrell, and R Holland secured the President's prize after a replay. Mr Holland also won Mr J W Lake's prize.
In April 1931 a record was created in the Nantwich golf flag competition when J P Whittingham holed in one at 148 yard seventh hole. The flag competition on Good Friday was halved by G B Gresty and W J Lake (captain). The flag competition on Bank Holiday was won by C Minshaw, who finished on the 18th green.
In September 1931 the competitions for the captain's and president's prizes were played; C Minshaw defeated M Arnold in the 36-hole captain's prize; W Booth beat J Edge 2 and 1 for the president's prize.

The annual dance was heldat the Brine Baths Hotel in December 1934. It proved very successful with about 120 members attending. The catering for supper in the winter gardens was organised by the new management. The M.Cs. for dancing were Messrs., W J Lake and F Wooldridge. Douglas Webb's band of Crewe, played for dancing.
The winner of the challenge cup in August 1935 was Dr Stewart Johnstone (6) who defeated A R Whittingham (14) by one hole.

Crewe Chronicle Saturday 2 May 1936 - "Mr W J Lake (handicap 12), a prominent member of the club, won the club challenge bowl for the first time on Wednesday night when he defeated Dr Stewart Johnstone (6) over 18-holes by 1up. Mr Lake who has figured in the final of this competition on several occasions, won the match on the last green after a keenly contested match."

In the final of the 36-hole Hampton Cup in July 1936 L Hodges (10) defeated W Smith (9) by 3 and 2. Mr C F Poole presented the cup.
Staffordshire Sentinel Saturday 20 February 1937 - "At the annual meeting Mr W J Lake was elected President for the year, the retiring President being Mr R Holland. Mr T Leach was reappointed Secretary and Mr R Strange, Treasurer. Mr T S Wood expressed his wish to retire from the Captaincy, and Stewart Johnstone was appointed in his place. Mr Howell was reappointed the Match and Competition Secretary. The financial statement showed a satisfactory credit balance. It was stated that the new pavilion had proved a great boon to the members."
Dr Stewart Johnstone presided at the annual meeting in April 1940. Mr A R Whittingham was appointed president, and Mr T Horlock (the club's oldest member) captain.

Winsford Chronicle Saturday 20 February 1943 - "Nantwich golf course, which has been closed some time, has been taken over by Mr Watkin Lea, Church House Farm, from whom it was leased. Before being closed down the course was used for grazing."
