The club first appeared in 1896 with a short lived nine-hole course at South Lodge.

The club moved to its present location in 1904.

The report below on a match played in October 1904 mentions that the game was played on the picturesque links at Embleton. We can assume that the course at South Lodge had ceased to exist.
