Winkley Hall Golf Course, Whalley. (1911 – WW1) 

Tom Simpson, born in 1877, was a well to do Cambridge educated lawyer. His wealth allowed him to leave the legal profession and take up golf course design.

The article below is from Country Life December 30th 1911 and is reproduced courtesy of Dick Verinder of Dormy House Press. It describes a course laid out by Tom on the Simpson family estate at Winkley Hall near Hurst Green, Whalley.

The funeral took place in January 1917 of Mr Walmsley Simpson of Winckley Hall, Hurst Green. Amongst the mourners were his son Tom Simpson.
