Hoylake Municipal Golf Course, Carr Lane, Wirral. (1933 – 2022)
It was reported in January 1931 that the Hoylake and West Kirby District Council had received sanction from the Ministry of Health to borrow £28,000 for the purchase of 200 acres of land including the Hoylake Ladies’ Golf Links, and municipal golf was to be instituted.
The Hoylake Municipal Golf Club was founded in 1933 on the former site of the Hoylake Ladies course (see separate entry on this website for the history of Hoylake Ladies’ Golf Club.)
The course was laid out by James Braid.
It was reported in March 2022 that from 1 April that the council would no longer be maintaining the Hoylake Municipal and Brackenwood golf courses.
A portion of the former course will be used as parking and a practice area for the upcoming British Open on the nearby Royal Liverpool course (2023).
