Fylde Golf Club, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancs.

Founded in 1909.

A qualifying competition for the Captain's Cup was played on Saturday 28 May 1910, leading net scores; W Lockwood, 76; W P Hull, 81; J Garside, W Kirby and J Waddington, 82; J Jennings, 84; T W Fairbrother and W Catterall, 86; A Poole, 89; S S Nash, 90.

The summer meeting was held on Saturday 16 July 1910 when the Challenge Cup presented by Mr & Mrs C V Haworth was competed for. Thirty three cards were taken and following are the best net scores; W Kerby, 75; J H Robinson, 76; T H Marsh, 77; R Rothwell and J Atkinson, 81; S S Nash, 82; W P Crain, 84; W Lockwood and Dr. Walton, 85; R Farnworth, 86; J Jennings, 88.

The first annual general meeting was held at the Royal Oak Hotel, Poulton, in November 1910, C V Haworth, captain, in the chair. The statement of accounts were considered very satisfactory showing a credit balance of £53/10s. The lease of the links, as arranged by the Council, provided for a nine-hole course for a term of 14 years with the option of the club to extend the course to 18-holes on satisfactory terms. It was arranged that the cost of laying out of the course, erection of a club pavilion and providing necessary implements should be raised by the way of loans from the members, over £200 was promised at the meeting. The following officers were re-elected; Captain, C V Haworth; hon. treasurer, J Spedding; hon. secretary, R Bowman; hon. auditors, J H Robinson and R Roe.

In 1914 the secretary was James Jennings. A 9-hole course with a membership of 105 gents and 94 ladies. Entry fee for gents was £1/1/0 and ladies 10/6. The subscription for all categories was £1/11/6. Country membership for gents was £1/1/0, ladies 10/6. Visitors’ fees 1/6 a day, 6/- a week and 15/- a month. Sunday play allowed without caddies.

In 1922 the secretary was W Gray, 21 Buck Road. The club now had a membership of 71 gents and 103 ladies. Visitors’ fees were 2/- a day, 8/- a week, 15/- a fortnight and £1 a month. Sunday play allowed with caddies. Station at Poulton-le-Fylde (L&YR) was 300 yards away.

In 1923/4 the secretary was P Bullough and the professional P Marsh. Membership was now gents 100 and ladies 100. Local hotel was the Bull.

The final of the Captain's Cup, presented by C G Nickson, was played on Saturday 11 September 1926, result; C B Openshaw, 183-34-149; L V Henthorne, 176-24-152; J F Greenwood, 173-20-153; Dr. Fairbrother, 165-10-155; J R Hull, 181-24-157; R Bullough, 181-22-159; P W Kent, 167--6-161; R L Loe, 173-12-161; R Whittaker, 189-28-161. 

The autumn handicap for a prize presented by Mrs Howarth (president) was played in September 1926 and won by J Barrett, 83-11-72.

In September 1930 the competition for the challenge cup was played over 36-holes, the winner was A Rushton and the runner-up Dr. R W Fairbrother. The cup was given by the late C V Haworth and his widow gave a momento of a silver ash tray and silver match box. Mr S Woolnough, the ex-captain, made the presentation.

In 1930 and 1933 the secretary was L V Henthorne, “Lyndale” Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde. The professional from 1926 to closure was T Brown. The green-keeper was J Wilkinson who had been at the club throughout the 1920s. Still a 9-hole course, with a membership of 90 gents and 120 ladies.

The final entry for the Fylde Golf Club in the Golfer's Handbook was 1933.

The current Poulton-le-Fylde club was founded in 1974.
