Haydock Park Golf Club, Lancs. (1877 - 1922)
Founded in 1877 and is one of the earliest golf clubs in England.
Result of the first prize meeting played in May 1877.
Due to a change in tenancy the first course had to be given up. The club then moved to a nine-hole course which adjoined the racecourse. The club moved to its present location in 1922.
The report below is from November 1878.
Medal day results, played on Saturday 21 March 1891, the links were in “capital order for golfing” The Legh medal for the best scratch score was won by Dr Cottam with a score of 104 the Rev H Siddall was runner-up with 109 and secured the Williamson medal. In the handicap competition the first prize was won by Richard Barton.
In June 1891 the Captain's Cup was won by A Smith with 112 plus one = 113. Dr. Cottam was second with 115 scratch.
On Saturday 5 September 1891 the competition for the captain’s prize was won by Dr Cotton with a scratch score of 112.

H Siddall, 104 scratch; Captain Lowe, 114-10-104; G W Rigg, 125-20-105. The Leigh Gold Medal for the best scratch score was taken by Dr. Cottam, F H Smith gaining the Williamson Silver Medal.
