Walderslade Golf Club, Links Lane, Chatham. (1930s)

Short lived golf course that appeared in the 1930s.

It was probably a nine-hole course but this needs confirmation.

Evidence of the course from the Chatham Observer 1931 – “there was a fanfare of trumpets and a possession of members in fancy dress when the new golf course was opened on Christmas Day. Mr C Munro dressed as the “Mayor of  Walderslade” made a speech after which Mrs Rickards drove off from the first tee.” Mrs Rickards ran the family shop on Walderslade Hill.

Ordnance Survey Map from the 1930s showing Links Avenue to the south, the location of the course would have been north of Links Avenue.

Walderslade Golf Club, Links Lane, Chatham. O.S. Map from the 1930s showing Links Lane.

On the O.S. Map published in c.1950 the road is called Watson Avenue, the current name.
