Northwick Park Golf Club, Watford Road, Harrow. (1923 - WW2)
Northwick Park took over the course once occupied by the earlier Hill Golf Club (See separate entry For Hill Golf Club.)
Northwick Park first appeared in 1923 when the secretary was Major A Whitley Laverack M.C, 40 Gayton Road, Harrow, Telephone number 482, Club Telephone Harrow 342. The professional was A Andrews who continued until the clubs closure, the green keeper at this time was E Dunn. Two courses were listed an 18-hole and a 9-hole ladies’ course. The club had a membership of 400. Course records were, amateur H E Adey with a score of 73 and professional E Ray 70. The station at Northwick adjoined the course. Visitors’ fees were 2/6 a day with member, 5/- without, weekend and Bank Holiday 3/6 with, 7/6 without. Sunday play was allowed with caddies.
In a booklet by Dr Alister Mackenzie in 1923 he mentions his involvement with changes to the course. The exact changes are not recorded but they must have been substantial to have been included in the publication. By this time Mackenzie had split from his partnership with Harry Colt and Hugh Alison. Colt had designed the earlier Hill Golf Club course.

Green-keepers Competition played in August 1923.
In 1926 the secretary was Major H Frost MBE and the green-keeper W J Kitchen who continued until the clubs closure. Visitors’ fees were now 3/6 a day, 2/6 after 1pm, weekend and Bank Holiday 7/6, 5/- after 1pm.
During the 1930s the secretary was Major E A Prout. 18 and 9-hole courses with a membership of 500.Course records were still, amateur H E Addey 73, professional E Kay 70.
In April 1933 Arthur Havers and Abe Mitchell beat Percy Alliss and C A Whitcomb in a 36-hole exhibition four-ball match at Northwick Park by one hole.

The clubs final appearance was in 1940 when the secretary was A E Bishop, the professional was A Andrews and the green-keeper W J Kitchen. Membership at this time was 535. The 18-hole course had a SSS of 72 there was also the 9-hole course listed. Course records were; amateur R G D Riddell 67 and professional S Burns 68. Visitors’ fees were 3/6 a day, 2/6 after 1pm, 10/- at weekend and Bank Holidays 5/- after 1pm.
The club was wound up following WW2.
Harrow Technical College and Northwick Park Hospital now occupy most of the site although there are some green areas of the former course that still remain.
