Shernfold Park Golf Club, Frant, Sussex. (1898 - WW1)

Below is the result of a match played on the Culverden Golf Club, Tunbridge Wells, course (also now defunct) on the 5th April 1898 against Henley, Frant Golf Club.

The Henley/Frant club was probably a forerunner of the later Shernfold Park Golf Club.

Shernfold Park Golf Club was founded 1908. The entrance fee for gents was £1/1/0 and ladies 10/6, subs were gents £1/5/0 and ladies 15/-. A 9-hole course with lots of hazards. It was 1 ½ miles from Frant and 1 mile from Tunbridge Wells.

Following is the result of the October 1909 monthly medal; R Ware, 93-16-77; James Davenport, 95-14-81; Stanley Evans, 98-15-83. Miss Davenport won the ladies’ competition, Miss E King was runner-up. 

Results of the Christmas Competitions 1909; Gents’ medal – James Davenport, net 80; T W Bridgford, net 81; bogey – James Davenport. In the ladies’ bogey Mrs Davenport and Miss Lake tied, Miss Lake won the replay.  

Result of the Rouse Challenge Shield played in July 1914; R Ware (10) all square; W R Mealing (16) all square; J Davenport (7) 3 down; A H Staple (20) 4 down; J H Newcombe (15) 5 down; George Coleman (16) 5 down; Dr. Rouse (17) 6 down.

During WW1 Shernfold Park was used as a military hospital. The golf course is not recorded after WW1.
