Bullpits Golf Club, Bourton. (1986 – 2022)
18-hole short course opened in 1986.
Sadly the much loved course closed in October 2022.
The following message appeared on the club facebook page on 28 October 2022 – “Come along this weekend for your last game of golf here at Bullpits before we close. The greens will be attended to on both Sunday and Monday before we remove all the holes and flags on Tuesday 1st November. We'll look forward to seeing you one last time.
We have sold the property and the new owners don’t want to continue with the course, they are horse lovers and will return the land back to pasture.”
The following information is from the club website; “Situated in Bourton on the borders of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, Bullpits Golf Club is home to a delightful 18-hole short challenging course. It was established around 25 years ago in wooded parkland and on the valley sides of the River Stour and boasts bubbling springs and picturesque ravines and leats in historic surroundings.
The 18 acres that comprises Bullpits Golf Club was originally laid to golf course in 1986 by John Freeman who was the owner of the land at the time. He also owned the factory in the village, now demolished and being developed into a new housing estate. The river is being diverted and a rather gorgeous cascade has been added on the weir. At the end of 2006 Richard and Cathy Price took over the Golf Course and have been making steady improvements since then. We operate very seriously with a small number of staff.
Bullpits Golf Club is a very beautiful, picturesque setting and incredibly peaceful.
The golf course is, to all intents and purposes, a private one. We do not advertise and like to keep numbers small and manageable and we operate largely through recommendation and word of mouth. We are however, totally inclusive and everyone is very welcome. This makes the course particularly appealing for beginners and those who relish an emptier environment. Because we do not have large throughputs of visitors we do not have enough customers on a daily basis to have staff manning the clubhouse.
Being a small almost private Golf Club, we don’t have staff permanently on hand in the Clubhouse. We rely on our visitors to make themselves at home, help themselves to soft drinks and leave the money in the honesty box provided for the purpose.
Arrival - When you arrive we would ask that you report to the Clubhouse where there is a registration book for you to sign in. Green Fees - Pop your green fee into one of the envelopes provided for the purpose and then having sealed and signed it, post it into the honesty box on the wall. Play - You are then free to enjoy your round of golf! Regular checks are made to ensure that visitors have signed in correctly ……….so, no cheating!”
