“The course was designed by Hutchison, Campbell and Hotchkin and laid out in 1934. A private course on the estate of Sir Harry Warden Stanley Chilcott D.L J.P (who signed himself as Sir Warden Chilcott) The course was mainly used for entertaining guests and friends. Sir Harry died in the USA in 1942, the entire estate was eventually sold by Lady Chilcott by auction. It was purchased by a Mr R Knight and subsequently leased to the Southampton School of  Navigation and Warsash College”

On Tuesday 3 September 1935 there is a Mr A Clarke, a scratch golfer, who was attached to Hook Park, playing in the War Memorial Trophy, in connection with the West of England Amateur Championship meeting at Burnham and Berrow. Clarke finished well down the field with a score of 80.

On the following day Mr Clarke was playing in the West of England Open Amateur Championsip. There is no record of him playing in the first round but in the second round he beat H E Forrester (Sunningdale) 6 and 5.

On Monday 26 April 1937 Mr Clarke (Hook Park) appears again, he was playing in the English Amateur Championship at Saunton. It was reported that Arundell Clarke, of London, son of the late Major Arundell Clarke of Fremington, was engaged in the longest match of the day (it went to the 24th hole) he beat T A Bourne, a former holder of the title. In the second round he beat J A Bishop (Huyton) 2 and 1. He went out in the next round beaten 2 and 1 by Brian Goodrich (Moor Park).
