Strabane Golf Club, County Tyrone. (1908 – 1954)
The club was founded in 1908.
The club moved to their current location in 1954.
It was reported that on the lengthened course on the 10 March 1910 Hugh McNeill, the Portrush professional, had played a remarkable round of nine-holes on the Strabane Links, his figures as follows; 4,3,2,4,3,2,4,4,5 = 31. The weather conditions were very bad and the greens sodden.
In September 1914 twenty two couples took part in a mixed-foursome competition in aid of the Prince of Wales’ War Relief Fund, result; Miss Dickie and Rev. Mr McGlynn tied with Miss F A Merrick H C Cochrane on 6 down. On the toss of a coin the latter couple won the medals. The ladies generously supplied lunch and tea and together with entry fees for competitions £4/10s was raised for the War Relief Fund. Further competitions had also been organised “for which the entry money will go in cigarettes for the North Irish Horse (Captain E C Herdman’s regiment.)
In April 1915 the Strabane Ladies’ travelled to Omagh to play a match.

Competitions played in June 1921 in aid of Lord Haig’s Fund; Ladies’ singles - 1st Miss M Boyd, 2nd Mrs Barnhill; Men’s singles – 1st Jack Barnhill, 2nd Captain Ross; Mixed foursome – Captain Ross and Miss S Boyd.

In May 1923 James Taylor, the Strabane professional, set a new nine-hole course record of 32.
The final of the Herdman Cup, presented by Sir Emerson Herdman, was played over the Carricklee Golf Links in June 1923. The finalists were William Harpur, Derry Road, Strabane, and Patrick Doherty, Main Street, Strabane. William Harper won the competition.

The competition for the captain's prize was played in July 1927; semi-final - T O'Shea beat A Weir and T Malcolmson beat P McGirr; final - T Malcolmson beat T O'Shea.
The competition for the Captain Herdman Cup was played in October 1927; semi-final - P G McGirr beat P O'Doherty and T O'Shea beat P J Ward; final - P G McGirr defeated T O'Shea 3 and 2.
It was reported in February 1928 that the members had just completed a substantial extension to the already splendid clubhouse. Great improvements had also been made to the course which had practically been remodelled. A telephone had also been added.
The annual meeting was held in May 1928, F Beaumont in the chair. The following officers were elected; Captain, F Beaumont; secretary, A Gallagher; treasurer, G J Lamie. Thanks were passed to Sir E C Herdman for granting the club a 21 year lease on the course at favourable terms.
In the final for the captain's prize played in June 1928 Dr. W Stevenson defeated Mr Barnhill by 6 and 5.
Result of the Members' Cup competition played in May 1930; semi-final - J L Carton beat A Gallagher and J Blair beat G Simms; final - J L Carton beat J Blair.
The annual meeting was held in May 1931, Harry Dillon in the chair. The following officers were elected; Captain, Dr. W Stevenson; hon. secretary, A Gallagher; treasurer, J G Lamie; competition secretary, P J McGirr.
From the 1933 Golfer's Handbook; Membership of 90; Hon. secretary, Andrew Gallagher, Greemount House, Strabane; green-keeper, W Kelly; professional record, H McNeill, 61; nine-holes; visitors' fees, 2s a day, 2s/6d at weekend. Course was a 15 minute walk from the station.
The final of the Members' Cup was played in June 1934; semi-final - P Doolan beat B J Kelly and D F Ryan beat William Hunter; final - D F Ryan beat P Doolan on the final green.
A founder and ex-captain of the club, William Roulston, died in August 1934.
Result of the Uncle Percy Competition played in August 1936; semi-final - A Gallagher beat H McGrane and H Dillon beat H Roberts; final - A Gallagher beat H Dillon.
At the annual meeting in May 1937 the following officers were elected; Captain, Dr. R Weir; secretary, A Gallagher; treasurer, J G Lamie.
The following officers were elected in May 1938; Captain, John Orr; secretary, A Gallagher; treasurer J G Lamie; council - Senator Sir A C Herdman, Captain Wagentreiber, J Devine, J S Harper, W Hunter, F Beaumont, J S Weir, F Ryan, W J Dickson, W Harper, Q Y Lawson, J Ross and Dr. W Stevenson.
In the final of the Uncle Percy Cup played in August 1938 Major Humfrey beat C Gilliland.
In the final of the Ladies' Camus Cup in April 1939 the trophy was won by Mrs J D McLaughlin with Mrs Bastible runner-up.
The meeting of the ladies' section was held in March 1940, Mrs W J Patterson was elected captain. The meeting also reported the death of Mrs Harpur, who had been captain of the club and served on the committee since its formation.
The annual meeting was held in May 1940, John Orr presided. The following officers were elected; Captain, W H Wagentreiber; hon. secretary, A Gallagher; treasurer, J G Lamie.
The annual meeting was held in May 1943, H Roberts outgoing captain, in the chair. It was reported that £250 pond had been raised for local war charities. The following officers were elected; Captain, J P Herdman; secretary Andrew Gallagher; treasurer, J L Carton; competition secretaries, H Roberts and V Hogg.

At the annual meeting in March 1952 Jack Grealy, Lifford, was appointed captain. Other appointments; Joint secretaries, A Gallagher and F Browne; treasurer, J Lancaster; competition secretary, Roy Houston.
At the annual meeting in March 1953 it was announced that Mr A Gallagher, O.B.E., D.L., who had been secretary for almost 40 years, had retired. J J Grealy, the outgoing captain, was re-elected. Other appointments were; Secretary, D F Browne, J.P; treasurer, J S Lancaster; competition secretary, R Houston. Mrs M McDaid, who resigned the position of stewardess during the year after being associated with the club since it was established, was made an honorary member.
Lady officers for 1954; President, Lady Herdman; captain, Miss E Devine; joint secretaries – Mrs McCaffrey and Mrs Fitzharris; committee – Miss Russell, Mrs Lawson, Miss P Devine, Mrs McLaughlin, Miss Boyd, Mrs Gallagher, Mrs Coyne, Mrs Keery.
It was reported in July 1954 that the club would be leaving the Carricklee links on November 1st when the present lease terminates.
