Extract from a message that appeared on the club Facebook page 29 December 2021 – “As they say all good things must come to an end, and alas, yesterday morning, saw the last official get together at Dunmore Golf Club before the club closes at the end of this week after 54 years. Played in super winter sunshine and with a large turnout captain Fergus Coleman made a lovely speech before we teed off for one last time.

Dunmore Golf Club has meant so much to so many people over the years, great friendships have been formed and maintained and it has been a club where so many have honed their skills and learned the game of golf. Without the forward thinking of founder, the late Derry O'Donovan who knows what would have happened for golf in Clonakilty.

The club punched above its weight so many times over the years with plenty of near misses and what if stories but with plenty of interclub wins as well. It was a joy personally to represent the club on many occasions and it’s something we all will miss as we move on to pastures new.

It goes without saying that the club would not have survived without its loyal members, present and past, and for that we are forever grateful. In trying circumstances the club has pulled together to ensure 2021 saw golf played and enjoyed on the course. We may have been a small club but the heart beat of the club is its members and we wish each of you good golf in the future and let's hope our paths will cross again soon on the greens and fairways. Knowing everyone by their first name was always key in the club and made playing golf, be it a new member of visitor that bit easier and more relaxing. The constant banter and craic was ever present as well with plenty stories over the years. And believe me there was little sympathy for lost balls or missed putts so you had to soak up the banter dished out!!

To the many loyal sponsors of our competitions over the years, a massive thank you to all of you, the list is too long to mention but you all know who you are. Each and every year, the level of support and goodwill shown by you has ensured the playing of so many competitions, some going back decades and shows how much the club was regarded by its sponsors. Once again, thank you for your support over the years.

To Carol, Richard and all at Dunmore House Hotel you for everything you have done for the club over the years. The support shown has been great and we wish you all every success in the future.

To the staff over the years, from Johnny Walsh to Jim O Conner, John Collins to Martin White, these are some of the men who maintained the course so thank you for your time and effort and ensuring we had a course to play on day in, day out.

To the hard working committee members, who had to work through a global pandemic to ensure we had a club to play in during the last year, thank you for all your help, effort and support. It has been tough but credit to each of you. To all members who served on committees over the years, a thank you to you as well for all the work you put in.

Finally, to our captain Fergus Coleman and President John Minihan, well done on a successful year and while I know both of you are sad and emotional to see the club close, remember the good times and the massive work you both did during this year, congratulations on a great year. You did both the club and yourselves proud.

So that's it folk's. It has been a joy and privilege to be a member of Dunmore Golf Club and all we can say is good golf in the future and have a safe and Happy New Year.”
