The club was founded in 1893.

A 9-hole fairly flat course that was kept in first class condition with excellent greens.

The final of the Shaw-Stewart competition was played in June 1895. The finalists were A D Thompson and H Boyd, both playing off scratch, the former won by 5 and 3.

The Cameron Corbett Vase, one of the oldest amateur competitions still being played for in Britain, dates to 1897 and was first played for at Toryglen.

From "Golf" Friday 8 January 1897; "The Toryglen Club have appointed John Gordon as green-keeper out of forty applicants. Before leaving Lockerbie, where he was green-keeper to the Annandale Club, Gordon received from the locals a purse of sovereigns, as a token of their appreciation of his work." 

Result of the semi-final of the Shaw-Stewart tournament played in June 1899. Hugh Boyd walked over against D Cameron and C Todd beat T McClelland.

The following is a report from the Glasgow Herald of Thursday 12 May 1898. “The second competition for the handsome vase presented to the Toryglen Golf Club by Mr Cameron-Corbett MP, took place last night over the Toryglen course. The competition was open to not more than three representatives of each club. There were 15 entries representing nine clubs. The entry was not large, but it was representative, and the competition resulted in some capital play.Mr A F Duncan, Kilmalcolm, the present holder of the trophy, finished with a fine score of 78”  Mr Duncan’s score as follows.

“Mr Duncan was unfortunate at the last hole. After a magnificent drive, his pitch on went out of bounds, and he was penalised a stroke. Mr J G Macfarlane, Glasgow Club, the last player, made an exciting finish, and tied with the same score as Mr Duncan” The details of Mr Macfarlane’s score as follows.

In August 1898 whilst playing in a three ball match with R B Kennedy and John Oulston, Mr F W Kennedy set a new course record of 75.

In the 1940s the SSS was 69 and Par 72. Membership was constant with 250 gents and 50 ladies. Sunday play was not allowed until the 1930s.
