Strichen House Golf Club, Aberdeenshire. (1890s - 1930s)

Although the exact start and finish dates are still to be found the first course appeared in the late 1890s.

There was a second club just prior to WW1, it's probable that this course was eventually given over for the war effort. There is no evidence of this course surviving following the Great War.

The following report appeared in the Aberdeen Journal on Tuesday 11 August 1896. “The Strichen trustees have formed a six-hole golf course in the large park at Strichen House for the use of Mr Michell, the lessee of the shootings, and his guests. Mr Michell is a great enthusiast in the royal and ancient game. Mr McLean, head keeper, superintended the making of the course.”

In July 1926 the new course was opened by Mr David Ewing a forest worker on the Strichen Estate who was invited by Mr W C Sleigh to strike the opening shot. The course was designed by Dr A Mackenzie of Leeds, initially of 8-holes it was eventually extended to 18-holes. Colonel Adams was President and Mr R Alexander, Secretary of the club.
