The nine-hole course was to be laid out on Quarry Hill on the farm of Mains of Rhynie. G Shepherd and E C Souter held a meeting with Mr Thomas Mackie, tenant of the farm, with a view to furthering the scheme. Mr Mackie was very keen and even offered to help with the laying out of the course.

It seemed as though Rhynie was to get its much awaited golf course.

A management meeting of the Rhynie Golf Club was held on Wednesday 10 September 1913. Mr Robert Troup reported that the money raised from the recent cake and candy sale amounted to £25/10s/4d, with expenses of £2/7s/6d, leaving a satisfactory balance of £23/2s/10d. Mr Shepherd, secretary and treasurer, stated that the income from all sources to date was £166/12s/9d against outgoings of £140/13s/10d.

The first annual meeting of the Rhynie and Lumsden Golf Club was held at the Public School, Rhynie, vice-president, Rev J McHardie, in the chair. The total number of members enrolled during the season was 72. All the office-bearers and committee memberes were re-elected. William Taws the Quarries, G Milne and William Kelsman, Lumsden, were added to the committee. The following members were elected to form a ladies' comittee; Mrs W P Craik, Craig Castle; Mrs Shepherd and Mrs Murray, Rhnie; Misses Garden, Edwards and Duncan, Lumsden; Miss Esson, Contloch; Misses Anderson, Law, Begrie, Angus and Thompson, Rhynie. The green committee met afterwards and were to arrange work to improve the greens.

Interesting to note that the club was recorded as Rhynie and Lumsden Golf Club at the above meeting.

The annual meeting was held in the Rhynie Public School in April 1915 Rev. J C McHardy, vice-president, in the chair. Rev. J Munro, interim secretary and treasurer, submitted the financial statement which showed a balance in hand of £7. For this favourable position the club was indebted to Thomas Mackie, Mains of Rhynie, who had decreased the rent on the course by £2. The question of keeping the greens and course in order was left in the hands of the Greens Committee.

Rhynie  Golf Club reappears following WW1.

Lumsden Golf Club appears in the early 1920s with its own course (see separate entry on this website for Lumsden).

From the Aberdeen Press and Journal Monday 9 May 1921 - "A meeting of Rhynie Golf Club was held on Thursday. Accounts were submitted and adopted. The following office-bearers and committee were appointed; President, Mr Penny Craik of Craig; vice-president, George Shepherd; secretary and treasurer, Adam Johnston; committee, Thomas Mackie, Frank Duff, James Murray, R Troup, J Duncan and E Souter. The club membership is very low, and a serious effort is to be made to rope in new members in order to make the club self-supporting. The course was taken considerable advantage by visitors last year, and with the necessary funds it could be one of the finest inland courses in the north."

The Rhynie Golf Club is wound up in October 1928.
