Turriff Golf Club, Aberdeenshire. (1895 – 1924)

The club was founded in 1895 with a nine-hole course at Townhill.

The club moved to its current location at Rosehall in 1924.

In June 1897 the final game for the gold medal presented by Mr Douglas, Comercial Bank, late president of the Club was won by R Anderson.

The following officers were elected at the annual meeting in September 1904; President, William Paterson; secretary, Thomas G Cumming; treasurer, J Ritchie; committee – Mr Anderson, A Morrison, A Henry, Geo. Lyall, J S Esslemont.

The winner of the May 1907 ladies’ monthly medal was Miss Maggie Thomson, 123-18-105.

The May 1909 monthly medal resulted in a tie between Rev. G L Duff and J M Gordon.

Mrs Lowe won the May 1911 monthly medal with a score of 96 scratch. Following are the leading scores for the gentlmen’s medal; F C Mitchell, 99-12-87; H J Mitchell, 99-10-89; J Lowe, 97-8-89.

Following is the Turriff team selected to play a match on the Duff House course at Banff in July 1911; Ian Williams, James Johnston,George Munro, O J Rankine, J L Williams, W Johnston, J Lowe, J M Gordon, Rev. G L Duff, H J Mitchell, J Macdonald, W Hendry, A Hutcheon, J L Keith.

The final of the club championship was played in November 1916 and was won by William Johnston  who beat J L Williams by 3 and 1. Mr Johnston had also won the Dunn Cup earlier.

The annual meeting was held in November 1918, A Hutcheon presided. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £12/3s/9d. It was decided to put the greater part of the crop ground under the plough. The following officers were elected; President, Capt. Duff; captain, A Hutcheon; vice-captain, R Birse; secretary and treasurer, J L Williams.
