Finzean Golf Club, Little Ennochie Course, Aberdeenshire. (1890s)

Report on a Club Tournament from the Aberdeen Press and Journal Tuesday 6 September 1898; “FINZEAN CLUB TOURNAMENT – On Saturday the members of the Finzean Golf Club had a match over the course opened at Little Ennochie in September last year. Monthly matches have been held during the season and the winner of the medal offered by Mr Blacklaws, Banchory, was declared to be James Taylor, a brother of the well-known Newburgh golfer. For the prizes offered on Saturday Mr Taylor and Mr A Robertson, Percie, tied for first and second places. The playing off of the tie proved the most interesting of the days proceedings. Result as follows; winner - A Robertson (handicap 9); second - James Taylor (scratch), Rev. C Dunn (scratch); D Smith (12); J J Mackenzie (scratch); Rev. D Stewart (18). A prize offered by J J Mackenzie, captain of the club, was also declared a tie between A Robertson and James Taylor, the former winning. The prize-list was contributed to by Dr Farquharson, M.P., president of the club; J Farquharson; Dr Mitchel and D Smith.”

From the Aberdeen Press and Journal Wednesday 21 December 1898; “BANCHORY -In connection with the Finzean Golf Club, an enjoyable entertainment was given by a number of local ladies and gentlemen – Misses L McKenzie and C Craigen, and Alexander Ross, W R Ewan, T Davidson, jun., and W Johnston, al were well receieved.”

The annual general meeting was held at Whitestone in October 1899. The club was in a good position financially, and with so influential as office bearers, the membership should increase.
