Nothing further found on the earlier proposed course.
The later eighteen-hole municipal parkland/wooded course opened 1959.
Funding of municipal golf courses by local authorities was coming under pressure, often leading to threat of closure. It was reported in August 2019 that Camperdown Golf Club would close the following year after councillors backed a report that said its running costs were no longer sustainable. Captain Ian McAlindon made a passionate plea to save the club. He said that “the Camperdown golf community was like a family to some of the older members.”
Legendary golf commentator Peter Alliss was much opposed to the decision made by the council to close the course. Alliss had fond memories of Camperdown. In July 1961 he played in a £500 winner takes all competition against Englishman Harry Weetman.
It was reported in February 2020 that a survival plan had failed and the club would be closing at the end of March 2020.
