Auchtergaven Golf Club, Bankfoot, Perthshire. (1936 - WW2)

Nine-hole course laid out south of Bankfoot near the New Inn Hotel.

Thanks to Bill Fairweather for supplying the information below.

“The Auchtergaven Golf Club, Bankfoot, Perth on which I, my Father, and two brothers played before the outbreak of war in 1939, was situated on the old A9 on the south side of the village opposite the former New Inn, subsequently Hunter’s Lodge, demolished a few years ago. As I recall it had a very short history and to our chagrin was ploughed up for the war effort in 1940/41 and my own minimal records are copies of the Office Bearers (including some very distinguished gentlemen!) and the Fixture Card or part thereof, for 1939. My eldest brother was the record holder there. I believe the club was formed in 1936/7; it was about 100 yards from our house. Looking at my notes I see that James Scott who was the vice captain in 1939 was probably the Farmer and the New Inn Hotel Keeper. I also send you my now slightly hazy recollections of the nine holes, with the squares for the tees and circles for the greens”
