Dunoon Municipal Golf Club, Ardenslate, Argyll & Bute. (1919 - WW2)

The municipal golf course came into existence when the Town Council bought some land originally belonging to Ardenslate Farm in 1919. This purchase included Cowal Golf Course and the newly constructed 18-hole (sic) municipal course and club house.

The green-keeper was A Waddell. Visitors’ fees were 1/- a round, 1/6 a day, 7/6 a week, 10/- a fortnight, 15/- a month and 20/- per annum, reduced fees for ladies and juniors. Sunday play was not allowed.

The opening of the nine-hole 2,172 yard course took place on Saturday 5 July 1924. The course was laid out by Harry Leslie, the Cowal professional. A clubhouse with veranda and ladies and gent's rooms had been erected.  Provost Ferguson said in his opening speech that "the new course would prove an additional attraction to the town, and that the Cowal club further up the hill, would have a chance of becoming a much better course" Following his speech he invited Miss Stewart, daughter of Councillor Stewart, to hit the opening shot.

The club was listed in the 1933 Golfer's Handbook as having a nine-hole course.

It was eventually extended to 18-holes.

The winner of the June 1935 bogey was R Hay (scratch) 3 up.
