Tongue Golf Club, Highland. (1895 - WW1)

The club was founded in 1895. 

It was reported in the Northern Times in July 1902 that "Tongue Golf Club are far too lenient with visitors. No charge is made, but, no doubt, voluntary subscriptions will be acceptable.

The following is taken from the 1905 Nisbet's Golf Yearbook; Secretary, W H Wright, Tongue; Club Captain Rev D Lundie who also held the course record of 71 (18-holes); Professional was J Mackay; Entrance fee was £1 and subs £1. Visitors played free but a voluntary contribution was expected which was used to improve the nine-hole course.  

In 1913/4 the secretary was P C Lennox and the green-keeper Andrew Nicol. A hilly course with dykes, whins, rushes and a wood; the greens were good but small. There was a membership of 20. Entry fees were 15/- and subs 5/-. Visitors’ fees were 1/- a day and 2/6d a week. Sunday play was not allowed. The nearest station was at Lairg 40 miles away.  

Tongue Golf Club did not appear after WW1.
