Dumbarnie Links Golf Course, Fife. (1837 – 1870s)
Dunbarnie links was also used by the Hercules Club, Colinsburgh.
As well as golf the links were used for rifle shooting and other athletic and gymnastic sports.
First mention found in November 1837 (note the alternative spelling – Dunbarnie Links which was often used).
Golf competition in May 1838.
The Hercules club played over the links for the Hume Medal on Saturday 28 July 1838. After a keen competition it was won by Charles Halkett Craigie of Lahill.
The Hercules club met on the links on 7 August 1841 to compete for the “McDuff medal.” It was won by John Martin of Edinburgh with a score of 99, the lowest number recorded on the links.

Extract of a report from the St Andrews Citizen Saturday 30 May 1908; “It was thought about reopening Dunbarnie Links. It is about forty years since there was any golf on Dunbarnie, and it is now utilised for agriculture, though the cottage that was once the clubhouse can still be seen there, and there are players about who can remember when a lot of golf was done there.”

Golf ceased to be played on the Dumbarnie Links in the early 1870s with the golfers probably moving to nearby Elie and Earlsferry courses.
