Dunbar Golfing Society, West Barns Links, Dunbar. (1790s)
The Dunbar Golfing Society played over the West Barns Links as far back as the 1790s.
It was reported in the Scotsman in June 1903 that "More than 100 years have elapsed since the game was first played at Dunbar, as is apparent from the Regulations of the Dunbar Golfing Society dated May 1794, where it is recorded that the members shall meet at Westbarns links on the second Wednesday of every month."
West Barns Links were later played over by the Hedderwick Hill Golf Club (1897 -1937) and East Linton Golf Club (1903 - WW2). For more information regarding the history of golf on the West Barns Golf Links see separate entries on this website for Hedderwick Hill and East Linton.
